Choosing a product
Three products, three different jobs.
Which product should I start with?
It depends on what you are trying to sort out. If your dog’s skin looks dry or irritated and you want something gentle to soothe and comfort it, start with BEYOND THE FUR®. If the issue is between-bath smell, start with DAILY RE:FRESH.®. If you want something for paws, faces and quick clean-ups on the move, start with BEST BARKIN’ WIPES®.
Plenty of customers end up using all three, but there is no need to buy a routine before you know how your dog gets on with one product.
What is the difference between Beyond the Fur and Daily Re:Fresh.®?
Beyond the Fur is a botanical skin spray. It is about comfort, calming and soothing skin that looks dry or irritated as part of a grooming routine.
Daily Re:Fresh.® is a body spray. It is about freshness, neutralizing odor and hydrating the coat and skin between baths.
One is for how the skin feels. The other is for how your dog smells. They are designed to be used together, not instead of each other.
Which size of wipes should I buy?
The 12-pack is the right way to try them. The 24, 50 and 100 packs bring the cost per wipe down, so once you know your dog likes them, the larger packs are better value.
Do you sell gift sets?
Gift sets are a seasonal item rather than part of the year-round range. We put them together for the holidays, and they are not available at other times of year.
Using them
How, how often, and on whom.
Do I need to rinse afterwards?
No. All three products are no-rinse. Spray or wipe, work it through the coat, and you are done. No bath, no towels, no wrestling a wet dog.
How often can I use them?
It depends which one. DAILY RE:FRESH.® and BEST BARKIN’ WIPES® are built for everyday use, as often as your dog’s routine calls for. BEYOND THE FUR® is different: use it as needed, rather than as part of a daily routine. It is made for the moments when your dog’s skin looks dry or uncomfortable.
FURVIVE™ is a shampoo, so it follows bath day rather than a schedule. How often that is depends on your dog’s coat, and your groomer or veterinarian is the better guide there than we are.
Can I use these on a puppy?
Our label says these are for use on dogs aged three months and older, so please wait until then. For a puppy younger than that, have a word with your veterinarian first.
Can I use them on my cat, or on other animals?
No. Our products are formulated for dogs and are pH-balanced for a dog’s skin, which sits at a different level to a cat’s. They are not intended for cats, and we would not recommend using them on any other animal.
This matters more than it sounds. Cats groom themselves constantly and react differently to botanical ingredients than dogs do. If you have a cat in the house, please speak to your veterinarian before using any dog grooming product around them.
Is it safe for me to handle?
Yes. Every formula is built to human-grade ingredient standards, which was the whole starting point for the brand. If it would not pass in a premium human skincare formula, it does not go into ours, and that applies to the hands doing the grooming as much as to the coat being groomed.
Ingredients and safety
What is in the bottle, and what is not.
What is actually in these products?
Human-grade, plant-based ingredients, pH-balanced for dogs. No artificial chemicals, no harsh sulfates, no synthetic fragrances.
The full ingredient list for every product, and what each ingredient is doing there, is on our Ingredients page. We would rather you read it than take our word for it.
Are the wipes biodegradable?
The wipe itself is biodegradable. It is made from 100% cellulose.
That applies to the wipe only, and not to the packaging it arrives in. Please do not flush wipes, including biodegradable ones. They belong in the bin.
Are these pH-balanced for dogs?
Yes. A dog’s skin sits at roughly pH 6.5 to 7.5, which is meaningfully different from human skin. Every formula is calibrated to that range rather than to yours, which is why a human shampoo or body spray is not a sensible substitute.
My dog has sensitive skin. Can I use these?
Read the full ingredient list on our Ingredients page first, and check it against anything your dog is known to react to.
If your dog has a known sensitivity, is taking medication, or is under veterinary care for a skin condition, speak to your veterinarian before using any new grooming product. We would rather lose a sale than have you skip that conversation.
As with any cosmetic, you can also try a small amount on one area first and give it a day before using it more widely.
Our label is explicit that these are for external use only, and to avoid spraying into eyes, ears or the nose.
Are your products cruelty free?
We do not test our finished products on animals. We are committed to working with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to reducing and eliminating animal testing.
Where are your products made?
Our Best BARKIN’ Wipes® are Made in Türkiye at a facility that maintains ISO 22716:2013 Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification for wipes filling, labeling and packaging activities. The facility also maintains ISO 9001:2015 certification for its filling, labeling and packaging activities. Our other products are made in the USA.
What to expect
What these products are, and what they are not.
My dog is scratching a lot. Will this help?
We want to answer this one carefully, because it is the question we are asked most and the one where it would be easiest to overpromise.
Our products are grooming and skincare cosmetics. They are not medicines, and they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition. Persistent scratching has a lot of possible causes, and the right first step is a conversation with your veterinarian rather than a bottle of anything.
What we can say is that once your vet has looked at what is going on, many of our customers use Beyond the Fur as part of a gentle grooming routine, to soothe and comfort skin that looks dry or irritated. That is what it is for.
How long before I notice a difference?
We do not publish timelines or before-and-after results, and that is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. These are grooming cosmetics, so promising a result by a particular day would be a claim we are not willing to make.
What you will notice straight away is practical: a coat that smells clean, skin that feels comfortable after grooming, and a routine that does not require a bath every time.
Are these a replacement for veterinary care?
No, and please do not use them as one. If something about your dog’s skin worries you, see your veterinarian. Nothing on this website is veterinary advice, and no grooming product should delay a proper diagnosis.
Who is behind the brand?
Jan Sprung and Nancy Novograd. Jan spent more than thirty years formulating luxury human skincare. Nancy has spent decades working with animal talent in television and film, where dogs have to be calm, comfortable and camera-ready.
They started the brand because the grooming products they trusted for their own dogs did not exist. The longer version is on our Our Story page.
Shipping
Where we ship, how fast, and what it costs.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are processed within two business days. We ship via trusted carriers, including DHL, USPS, FedEx and UPS. The carrier and available shipping options may vary based on the shipping destination. Once your order ships, transit time typically takes 2–7 business days, depending on the shipping destination and carrier. Please note that transit times are estimates and are not guaranteed.
How much is shipping, and is there free shipping?
We offer free standard shipping on orders of $25 or more. For orders under $25, shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on the shipping destination and the available shipping options.
Do you ship outside the United States?
We currently do not ship internationally. We only ship in the continental USA.
Returns
What happens if it is not right.
What is your return policy?
Contact us within 30 days of receiving your order. Email hello@thecanineprojectus.com with your proof of purchase, the items you would like to return and the reason, and we will review the request and send you return instructions if it is approved.
Approved refunds go back to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days of us receiving the item. The full policy, including return requirements and who pays return shipping, is on our returns and refunds page.
What if my order arrives damaged, or does not arrive at all?
That one is on us. Email us at SUPPORT-EMAIL with your order number and, if the box was damaged, a photo. We will replace it or refund it, and we will deal with the carrier ourselves rather than sending you to do it.
Orders and account
The practical bits.
Can I change or cancel my order?
If it has not shipped yet, almost certainly. Email SUPPORT-EMAIL as soon as you can with your order number, and we will catch it if we can. Once a parcel is with the carrier it is out of our hands, but the returns process still applies.
I did not receive an order confirmation.
Check your spam or promotions folder first, since that is where it usually is. If it is genuinely not there, email SUPPORT-EMAIL with the name and address you ordered under and we will confirm the order and resend it.
Do I need an account to order?
No. You can check out as a guest. An account simply makes it easier to see past orders and reorder without retyping your address.
Do you offer subscriptions?
Not at the moment. We do not have a subscription program yet, though it is something we plan to add.
In the meantime, the larger pack sizes work out cheaper per wipe, so they are the most economical way to buy regularly.
Ask us. A person will answer.
We are a small team and we read everything. If you have a question about a formula, an ingredient, or whether something is right for your dog, write to us and we will answer honestly, including when the answer is that you should talk to your vet first.
