5 Fall Grooming Tips Every Dog Owner Needs to Know by Patti Van Dyke, Owner of Skootee's Pet Care

As the crisp fall weather rolls in, I’ve noticed that my clients at Skootee’s Pet Care have a few extra challenges keeping their pups clean and comfortable. Fall is a fun season for dogs, with cooler walks and playful leaf piles, but it also brings muddy paws, shedding, and skin sensitivities from the changing weather. I want to share some of my go-to fall grooming tips to help you and your dog enjoy the season while staying clean and fresh!

1. Keep Paws Clean After Fall Walks

With fall comes wet leaves, mud, and all kinds of messes that stick to your dog's paws. After every walk, I recommend wiping your pup's paws down. This will not only keep your floors clean but also prevent irritations from dirt and moisture. I use BEST BARKIN’ WIPES because they’re gentle on sensitive paws and come in single-serve packs, so they’re always fresh and ready to use. These wipes are perfect for keeping by the door for a quick wipe-down!

2. Brush Regularly to Manage Shedding

As the weather cools, many dogs start shedding their summer coat to grow in a thicker one for the winter. To keep your home from becoming a fur-filled zone, brush your dog regularly. A good brushing two to three times a week will remove loose fur and reduce shedding. Not to mention, it keeps their coat healthy and tangle-free!

 3. Protect Skin from Dry Air

Just like us, dogs can experience dry skin as the air gets cooler and less humid in the fall. Be on the lookout for flaky skin or excessive scratching. Regular grooming and using a moisturizing wipe like BEST BARKIN’ WIPES can help soothe and hydrate your dog's skin. I love that these micellar wipes are made with quality human-grade ingredients and pH-balanced for dogs to keep my dogs’ skin soft without drying it out.

4. Check for Burrs, Stickers, and Debris

Fall hikes and park visits are fun for dogs, but they can also pick up unwanted hitchhikers in their fur—like burrs, twigs, and grass seeds. After outdoor adventures, give your dog a good check to remove anything stuck in their fur. Running a wipe over their coat not only cleans but also helps dislodge any pesky burrs. BEST BARKIN’ WIPES are gentle enough for daily use, and I’ve found they make these post-walk clean-ups a breeze!

5. Keep Ears Clean and Dry

Fall can bring moisture that causes ear problems, especially for floppy-eared breeds like Cocker Spaniels and Beagles. After outdoor play, make sure to check and clean your dog’s ears to prevent infections. A soft, gentle wipe works perfectly for this. I recommend using BEST BARKIN’ WIPES, which are not only effective at cleaning but also safe for those delicate areas

BEST BARKIN' WIPES Are a Must-Have for Fall

As a doggie daycare owner, I’ve tried countless wipes, and BEST BARKIN’ WIPES have become a fall grooming essential. Unlike other wipes, they stay moist and don’t dry out and they’re gentle on both my hands and the dogs’ skin, even with daily use. Plus, they are biodegradable and the container is recyclable which is important to me. Whether you’re dealing with muddy paws, dry skin, or fall debris, BEST BARKIN’ WIPES are a lifesaver for keeping your dog clean this season!

Make sure to stock up on these must-haves before your next fall adventure. Your dog will thank you, and your home will stay cleaner too!
